Scholarship Program
We grant university scholarships to students who finish high school with excellent results, but who cannot afford to pursue higher education.
The scholarships provide them the economic and human help they need to progress in their studies and grow personally and professionally. They typically cover university costs, accommodations, food, transportation, health insurance, academic support, assistance with relevant courses, tickets to visit their families and pocket money. Additionally, each student receives personal orientation from a tutor.
Today, we support the studies of five young people from Añatuya, Santiago del Estero, and three from Villa 31, City of Buenos Aires. To meet our scholarship beneficiaries, learn about the progress of their studies and hear about their dreams for the future, please click here.
orientation and instruction for teenagers
This program is aimed at the small minority of students in Añatuya, Santiago del Estero, who are close to graduating from high school, as currently only about 7% of students in Añatuya will graduate. Although they have the opportunity to finish high school, most of them believe their future should be the same as that of the generations that preceded them. In many cases, this includes alcohol and drug problems, domestic violence and abuse, unemployment, undernourishment, etc.
The objective of this program is to help these teenagers identify their abilities and talents in order to develop their self-confidence and respect and raise their awareness of the value of human life. It consists of five, two-day seminars which include:
The program includes:
a) Workshops and activities on topics such as vocation, family, talents, etc.;
b) Instruction in abstract thinking and study methods; and,
c) Individual interviews with psychology and psycho pedagogy professionals for vocational orientation and evaluation of abilities.
Between 80 and 100 teenagers participate in the program each year. Beneficiaries for the Scholarship Program are selected from within this program.
orientation and instruction for teachers
This program also takes place in Añatuya, Santiago del Estero, and compliments the program for teenagers described above, as it provides knowledge and tools to their teachers.
It includes:
a) Provision of material to the teachers to include in the curricula and facilitate continuous training of the students; and,
b) Training for teachers so they can better develop the reasoning abilities of their students from the very beginning of high school.
This program is carried out in Añatuya, Santiago del Estero.
VOCATIONAL ORIENTATION IN THE CITY OF BUENOS AIRES
Since 2005, we have provided vocational orientation to students in their last year of study at "Filii Dei" school located in Villa 31, one of the largest shanty towns in the City of Buenos Aires.
This program consists of a set of activities which encourage students to reflect on themselves, their strengths, weaknesses and interests, so they can consciously decide what to do after they finish school. They become aware of the challenges ahead of them and analyze the tools they have to overcome those challenges.
Through these activities, the program strives to build the students’ enthusiasm for their personal growth and to show them that it is possible to achieve their goals and objectives in order to transform the reality in which they live.
AÑATUYA knows - the challenge of knowledge
These are very hard times for education in Añatuya. There are not enough reasons, resources or hope for schools to become an engine of transformation and change. With this in mind, our Foundation launched "Añatuya Knows," a Knowledge Challenge, which had its first edition in October 2008.
Students from all schools are invited to participate in a big event at the end of the year. With their teacher's help, they need to learn the topics in their curricula in order to participate in an exciting questions and answers competition that rewards effort, team work and knowledge.
"Añatuya Knows" intends to be:
- An opportunity for the Añatuya students to develop their abilities, overcome obstacles and broaden their knowledge;
- Motivation for Añatuya teachers to teach the full contents of the curricula and a means for them to raise their student's interest in the curricula; and,
- A source of stimulus, renovation and self-confidence for the community of Añatuya as a whole. |
